The clinical decision, in Dr. Hugo's words
"When Celso arrived, the panoramic x-ray showed advanced periodontitis in both arches: bone loss around the remaining teeth, loose teeth and missing back teeth. He had already been through about 10 years of isolated treatments that addressed each episode but did not stop the progression of the disease.
At this stage, keeping teeth without adequate bone support means keeping sources of inflammation and infection and only delaying a loss that is already underway. That is why I indicated removal of the compromised teeth and fixed rehabilitation on implants for both the upper and lower arches, anchoring the implants in healthy bone. It was exactly what he was asking for: a definitive solution, not another repair.
With the 3D CT scan and intraoral scan, we planned the position, angulation and distribution of each implant and the relationship between the two prostheses before surgery. That digital planning, combined with our in house laboratory, also addressed his concern about an artificial looking result: the shape, color and proportion of the teeth were defined for his face.
On the same day we performed the extractions, placed the implants and delivered the definitive upper and lower fixed prostheses. For a patient afraid of the dentist since childhood, managing everything comfortably was part of the treatment. The result went beyond the mouth: with his self-esteem back, Celso lost 15 kilos after treatment."
